How to design teams that don’t suck (podcast episode)

Jess: This episode (38min) of WorkLife proposed that the best teams in the workplace have a few qualities:

  • Ideally all team members are 'launched' at the same time, with the most benefits coming from shared experience (rather than individual member skills)

  • Given a clear vision and purpose, maybe including a common enemy!

  • Encouraged to discuss their communication needs and how they'll work together

  • Problems are resolved at a team level where possible, rather than individual coaching

The Whole Brain Child (book)

Jess: It's funny how everything I'm learning about parenting seems just as relevant to adults. In today's example, The Whole Brain Child outlines 12 science-based strategies to raise a happy, resilient child.

My takeaways so far:

  • Conflict and sadness are unavoidable

  • Rather than try to distract from difficult emotions, normalise and allow them to exist

  • Every conflict is an opportunity to connect and repair

  • Often our body can help us regulate our emotions

Honestly, taking all of this advice for myself.
